My View
I was born in 1956 in Sydney where I have lived and worked for most of my life. Trained professionally as an interior designer for the first part of my working life, I was drawn to study colour and design, with fine art study following, which seemed a natural progression. I now concentrate full time on my art practice and travel to destinations that provide inspiration for my work. My practice involves experimenting across a broad range of diverse mediums and materials, creating works that bridge the abstract and representation, in print, drawing, sculpture and painting.
Drawing on my personal history and transformative experiences from as far back as early childhood, my work explores identity around the idea of connection, belonging, separateness from others and the notion of place.
Embracing the unknown, I allow chance to play a role in the making of my work, resulting in new themes, motifs and directions. My work embodies the confluence of choice and chance, where the absence of a preconceived outcome allows for a fluid and adaptive creative process. My intention is that the organic, evolving and layered nature of the work provides new avenues for expression and interpretation.
For over 15 years I have created artwork as part of design of public and private fitouts, gaining a wide range of experience in the production of large-scale artworks, having been commissioned and worked in collaboration with art consultants, developers, architects and interior designers.
